The Beauty of Living Alone

While this entire trip has been one of solitude, this last leg has helped me answer the question: can I live alone? Put simply, yes.

My travels have been filled with wonderful hosts, housemates and visitors; however, I am the type of person who truly values “me time.” Here are the top 3 reasons I love living alone:

Kitchen Etiquette

One of my biggest passions is cooking! Being alone in the kitchen, for me, is nirvana. A refrigerator stocked solely stocked with my supplies is a beautiful sight. When you want to leave your dirty dishes in the sink… go right ahead. When you have an OCD attack– then things will be cleaned to your standards. When you get back from the bar, your leftovers are right where you left them.

No Clothes No Problem

Nudity rules. Clothing is optional when you are on your own. There is no offending anyone. No exciting anyone. Strut yo stuff for yo eyes only.

Peace of Mind

Nightmare roommate stories are very real. Living alone eliminates The grueling process of finding comparable roommates. You don’t have to worry about anyone touching your stuff, bringing home randoms, or blasting music. Or… if you want to do these things, you don’t have to worry about upsetting your roomie.

Just because I am pro-solo living, does not mean I’m anti-roommate. When you live with the right people, it is a whole other experience! Living by yourself has its fair share of cons: like coming home to an empty apartment, no one to hang out with, and share a good meal with. The fact that I know this arrangement is not a permanent one gives me the outlook that I have. I do truly believe this is something everyone should try– even if it is just for a couple of weeks!
